Regaining Control with EndoBarrier
Once the EndoBarrier liner is in place, it goes to work immediately and continues around the clock. In addition to a drop in blood-sugar levels two to three weeks after placement of the device, many patients report feeling more ‘full’ for a longer period after they eat. This feeling of fullness helps you eat less and therefore lose weight.
As part of the natural digestive process, partially digested food mixes with several substances produced by your body. Among these substances are bile, enzymes, and hormones. When the EndoBarrier liner is placed, partially digested food is allowed to pass through its center; but it is not allowed to mix with these substances until food has passed completely through the liner. This prevents normal interactions with hormones in the intestine, which may increase satiety – the feeling of being satisfied with the amount you have eaten – which results in reduced food intake.
